This is Jerry Rodgers' original solo version used in his concerts. A place near the end, exists for an optional cadenza to be added to this work. Jerry always used a technically difficult clarinet cadenza from classical literature. Some students have used this in National competitions, and have invented their own cadenzas. One student won a $6,000 college scholarship playing this selection on bassoon. Although the entire arrangement lasts more than 5 minutes, students who have a time limit in competitions can easily create cuts in order to shorten the time. Players using this as an offertory can also shorten the music greatly. One option, would be to take the coda the first time through.
