This is a concert setting of the great hymn, that was used at the conclusion of a section of every concert by Jerry Rodgers, Marine band soloist, in his ministries. Some advanced students have used this arrangement in competitions. There is an open section, where the player can (optionally) insert a cadenza for the solo instrument. These cadenzas can come from some outstanding excerpt from the classical literature for the instrument, or can come from the player's ability to create an improvisation. Competition players have found an opportunity to be able to display their level of competency. Some have won college music scholarships using this arrangement.
