Originally arranged to provide background music at Christmas events where longer selections are appreciated by the performers, this trio includes several settings of the the carol for 3 unaccompanied instruments, with lengthy interludes between all the settings. Useful as dinner or reception music, it also works well as pre-concert music as listeners enter the performance hall. In addition to other sub parts, a highly skilled brass trio may play this as the first trumpet part lies in a high tessitura.
